I am Jenn, the photographer behind the lens!

My jam is photographing family’s that are looking for a causal, connective & laughter filled session!

You have booked your session,

From the moment you book your session, you will be guided through the whole process!!  In this welcome guide, clients will have their questions answered such as… tips on what to wear, when to book their session & what to expect from their session!!

From the moment you secure your due date, you will be guided through the whole process, so don’t worry…I got you!! Clients receive a super quick questionnaire, it’s a wonderful way for me to get to know you & your family!  Questionnaire number two will come after baby is born, this one is to get a tiny bit of info about your newest family member!!

Newborn session clients number one question is “When do we book our session?”  For many clients, they secure their “due date” months in advance of welcoming their new baby, we aren’t worrying about scheduling the date just yet!  I only accept 3 newborn sessions a month, so securing one of those dates is important…if you have received this welcome guide, you have already secured your spot…now we just wait!!

Once baby has arrived, clients are encouraged to send me a super quick text, FB message or email to let me know baby has arrived!!  Once congratulations has been sent, it’s time to look into officially scheduling your session date!

Most in home newborn sessions are booked within the first 7 days up to the two months after birth.

After 14 days, many newborns go through a growth spurt which requires them to feed more frequently, may begin to develop baby acne & have longer periods of wakefulness.  It’s not a huge problem is they are over the 14 day period, just keep in mind that images from the session may be slightly different considering the above factors.

One of the first things that clients are nervous about with a in home session is the prospect of having their whole house clean & presentable…there is no need!!  Focus on your favourite rooms with the best natural light, ideally 2 to 3 rooms is plenty!!  Great spots for your newborn session includes the nursery, master bedroom or living room…when choosing the master bedroom, it’s a great idea to keep the bedding in a neutral/muted colour such as grey, white or beige!

If choosing the nursery as one of your spaces for the session, have a fresh set of sheets on the mattress in the crib.  One that is your favourite, compliments the room & is neutral in colouring!!  Minimize the distractions in the room by removing any diapers genies, monitors or bags of extra diapers….when I arrive, I can also help you out getting your room set up!

Typically once I arrive at your home for your session, clients will show me around their home & we chat about their location ideas!

It’s always highly encouraged for parents to get in some photos with their newborn, I know it’s hard & new moms don’t feel amazing after baby arrives…but believe me, its a photo you WANT to have done!!  Your darling newborn will only be this tiny once, treasure the moment they fit snug in your arms, take a moment to enjoy these little fleeting times & all clients are thankful for the encouragement to take these images!

Since my children are older now, I cherish the images that I have of me with each of our children when they were newborns!  Let’s take a quick moment to give you some helpful tips on choosing what to wear!

Solid, neutral colours such as white, black, dark blue, beige or grey are perfect!  Dark coloured pants are recommended such as black, dark blue or beige.  Muted colours work very well also, try to steer clear of bright colours which can cause colour casts in your images.

Often clients ask if they are able to bring any older children to the newborn session, yes of course you can!!

Take into consideration these tips to make this experience enjoyable for any siblings…

  • Don’t stress - easier said than done but the more we push toddlers/young children to be photographed with their new siblings, the more they will probably rebel!

  • Give them a minute - we will give them a few minutes to adjust to new person in their home before we start photographing them.

  • Have some help - if at all possible, either have a family member, close family friend or even your partner to keep them occupied once their job is done. Younger siblings are always in the mood for snacks, a drink, playtime or a nap..having an extra set of hands available to help out is always appreciated!!

  • Clothing - keep them in solid coloured clothing, something that complimentary with your clothing. Stay away from clothing that has logo’s or characters as possible, they may be a fan of Paw Patrol but having characters on their clothing takes the focus away from the faces in the image.

Let’s chat a moment about digital images…USB’s are not designed for long term storage, neither are CD’s or DVD’s.  Technology advances at an alarming rate, where once we used to have floppy disks & now there are flash drives!  You would be hard pressed to find a gadget that uses floppy disks now!  In 5 to 10 years time, USB’s may be obsolete & heaven forbid you aren’t able to access your images…what then?

Printing out your images is truly the only way to ensure these memories aren’t forgotten in a drawer somewhere or stored on your computer.  Print them, hang them, make or purchase an album & give yourself the ability to enjoy them everyday!!

Studies have proven that when children look at their family’s printed images they have feelings of a stronger connection to members of their family, have a stronger sense of their identity, increases their self esteem, enhances their imagination & give them the feeling of being a valued member of their family!!

While looking through a photo album together you can’t help but share stories of the moment in the photo, help children to talk about their emotions & create a better connection to the people or events in their life!  I must admit, my own children prefer to look at printed photos rather than digital images!!  There is just something about holding the print in your hands, being grateful that you have these memories documented…it just warms your heart!!
