In-home Newborn Session | Cornwall Newborn Photographer
Newborn sessions are my absolute favourite sessions to photograph! Okay, I guess I can't say they are my absolute favourite because I love to photograph engagement sessions, weddings, maternity & family sessions....so I guess they are one of my top 5 sessions to photograph! And as much as I love photographing a studio newborn session, there is something endearing about a in-home newborn session. Maybe it's the fact that the couple is comfortable with being photographed at home or the fact that there are minimal props involved. I can't quite put my finger on it...but both are my favourite ways to capture your first days with your newborn.
Now the first comment that is mentioned when I talk about a in-home newborn session with clients is "our house is a mess" or "it's too small & cluttered"..well I have seen messy homes (mine being one of them on occasion) & your home is not as messy as you may think it is! When photographing a in-home newborn session, I always mention keeping the nursery & one other room in your home tidy. Most clients use the nursery & the master bedroom for their sessions..these rooms don't have to be spotless just tidy. I will move some personal objects around to keep the look clean & simple..it's similar to a wedding day, many times objects are pushed beside the bed to declutter the room. Plus, keep in mind you just had a baby & I am not expecting a spotless home!
The next question is a pretty common question for any session...what should we wear? It's always going to be recommended to wear neutral coloured clothing...black, white, beige or cream but since we are inside your home, take into consideration the colours on your walls. Your not going to wear purple if the walls in your main room is light blue. Plan your outfits prior to delivery to ensure less stress on the day of your session.
One of the best parts to having a in-home newborn session is that you can include your fur babies as well! Dogs, cats or even horses are all part of your family & aren't really invited to a studio newborn session. Also, it's a great opportunity to add in grandparents if they are willing to pop by for some images. Younger children are sometimes more comfortable at home & once we have captured some images of the siblings together, the older ones are off to play or even go for a nap!
I generally will bring one or two props..it's the studio newborn photographer in me! I will also bring along a couple of neutral coloured wraps to use as well. I was lucky enough to have a beautiful wood floor in this clients home, so I used that to my advantage!
Whether it's a in-home or studio newborn session you desire, I love to photograph them both! I am just so ecstatic that my clients have realized just how important this stage in their life is & that they have trusted me to capture those moments for them! I would love for you to contact me & let me know what moments you would love captured!
