Studio Newborn Session
More than a Moment offers three different types of newborn sessions...in home, studio & Fresh 48, which is the newest one available. In today's blog post, I will focus on a studio newborn session.
Studio newborn sessions are wonderful as your newborn will be posed with their newly expanded family, siblings & in different props for a whole new look from the other two types of newborn sessions. These session take place in my home studio in Green Valley, the reason for this is so that I don't have to move my props around everywhere. Everything is all set up & ready to go once you arrive at the studio...there are snacks, drinks & clients are able to use my country wifi!
I like to allow for plenty of feeding & cuddling time during your session, as these are baby led sessions plan on being here up to 4 hours. Generally, sessions are completed within 90 minutes but each baby is different & they ultimately decide the flow of the session.
Studio newborn sessions are the most successful between 5 - 12 days after birth. During this time newborns tend to be sleepier, have begun to master nursing or bottle feedings, enjoy being swaddled & have yet to realize they are able to stretch out fully. After 12 days, newborns tend to be more alert, cluster feed or develop baby acne. You can certainly schedule your session past 12 days but your resulting images will be different from other sessions you may have seen.
I always encourage parents to have their portrait taken with their new arrivals. I know new momma's may not feel like themselves after giving birth but I strongly encourage them to have their images taken with their newborns. Your newborn will not fit in your arms this way again & when they grow up it's such a cherished memory to have of their parents holding them close to their hearts.
Sibling portraits can be very tricky, as your older child may not have fully adjusted to their new role just yet. We tend to capture these moments plus family images right at the beginning of the session if possible. Once your older child is done, they may leave with Dad or a grandparent so we can focus on the rest of the session. The studio is a small area for a young child to behave themselves for the next 2 hours, this usually allow for mom to relax for the rest of our time together.
The studio is so cozy I have had some clients take a little nap during the rest of the session, I am very honoured when this happens...this means my clients feel comfortable with me handling their newborn plus it gives them some much needed rest!
I love studio sessions, as they allow my creative side to take over using props, fake or fresh flowers, textures, headbands or bonnets & special mementos that clients have brought with them. If you would like to have a chat about a studio newborn session, you are always able to contact me & I would love to walk you through the process of scheduling your newborn session!
